Every year around this time, Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams release their color of the year.
And literally every year, I'm left wondering how they chose it. It all seems so random.
But even though the color choices confuse me each year, I always like to keep up to date on them so that we know how to style spaces that may have these colors in them. If Ben Moore and SW are putting them out there for all to see, we are bound to run it to them somewhere, right?
This year though…totally different ballgame. The Sherwin-Williams Color of the Year is Naval–a beautiful vibrant navy! I have a love of all things navy–and blue in general–so this color of the year I can really embrace!
And, better yet….
A 2018 Zillow report found that homes featuring shades like light blue and deep navy actually sold for more.
For example, periwinkle or light blue-gray bathrooms sold at a $2,786 premium (wow!), while kitchens featuring rich blue cabinets went for an extra $1,547. So ummm…apparently I'm not the only one who loves blue and would be willing to pay extra just to have someone else take care of painting it for me!
And Naval happens to be one of the colors listed in my Favorite Cabinetry Color Paint Guide that you can find as a fun bonus inside the Staging Jumpstart Kit.
We love to see the transformation when tired oak vanities get painted and Naval is one of our go-to's. Here is a vanity that we had painted Naval several years ago. Isn't it so gorgeous?
It would also look incredible on a kitchen island like this:
Here it is on the front door of Ann from On Sutton Place
Navy and any deep, rich color works best when you add a lot of light-colored furniture, accents and art into the room especially when staging a house to sell. The contrast is super important for the camera.
Here we used navy on the sofa and then drenched the room in light colors and accents to keep it from feeling too heavy.
And notice in these images that brass accents also play nicely with navy. Brass and gold gild are super popular right now to add warmth to all of the gray trend that has been happening for the past few years and it looks fabulous with dark navy blue.
Before I go, wanted to show you that you don't need to break out the paintbrushes to get the benefits of navy in your space. Here's a little collage of things that I love to bring in the navy and coordinate with it…enjoy! (click the image to get the shopping info!)
