For those of you who read this blog, you know I am a chipper, enthusiastic sort. And, in my staging, I love to work with what my clients already own as much as possible.
I don't like to ever go negative unless I feel it is in service to you all. So, in the spirit of service, I want to start to banish certain items from your homes. Not because I find them repulsive but more because their function is limited and they can contribute to a feeling of discontent in a space. Yes, home decor can actually make you feel out of sorts in a space. We want your house to be a place that people love to be in and, in the case of staging, want to buy!
If you are thinking about selling anytime soon then these things will definitely make the short list of things you should pack before you ever take a photo. But, fear not, I am going to give you some nice alternatives to each of these–see, there's the service part! This week, let's discuss, the bane of any stager's family room….
Open Entertainment Stands
I see a lot of these and it is totally understandable because when you go to buy your tv, they sell tv stands right next to them. I forgive you for jumping to purchase one of these if you have done that. The problem with these guys is that they are typically not large enough for whatever size tv you have and the cords and cables that hang out behind are a huge source of clutter in a room. Believe or not, that clutter literally weighs on you and effects your mood.
It is incredibly challenging to hide all of those cords for listing photos too and we really just can't have them in the photos because of the distraction they cause. If you have one and it isn't an option to change it out, then I recommend cable containment gadgets that you can find at any office supply store and using electrical tape to tape them to the back legs of the stand. But, if you can dodge this bullet, below are some alternatives.
Great Alternatives to TV Stands
A Dresser
A Dining Room Buffet or Sideboard
