Which Backsplash Tile Goes With Granite?

Even though Quartz and solid surface counters are making a strong showing, granite is still the counter that I see installed most often when people upgrade their kitchens.  Also, since granite has become one of the more affordable options for countertops, a lot of my investors use them in their rehabs and a lot of the realtors that I work with recommend this upgrade to their clients getting ready to sell.

I thought today, that I would share with you my favorite backsplashes to go with granite.  You will notice that they are all pretty simple and this is for good reason.  Most granite–although not all–is pretty busy with spotting and veins.  In order to give the eye someplace to rest when you have a very active granite, I prefer the look of more solid tile vs mosaic or patterned tile.  As you will see below in my list of favorites, granite is versatile and works with simple subway tile and more modern profiles and materials.

Just as a side note, I recommend that the backsplash meets the counter so, skip the 4″ stone backsplash like this (and do you see how busy this feels with the granite and backsplash both being so splotchy and speckled?):

So, opt for this look–and notice how even though the granite has a lot of movement to it, it doesn’t feel as busy as the image above:
